REFLECTION In the past I have taken medical courses which were very useful in this process. In these courses, some things I learned which really helped me out are the human anatomy, how to check vitals, and basic medical terminology. Right away I noticed how difficult it was to completely understand what was going on, specifically with the terms they used. Luckily, it didn't take too long to remember the things I had learned and then have the ability to use these terms on a daily basis for three weeks! Some things I took from this internship are responsibility, time management, and double checking a grey area. This process was a big responsibility to take on but completely worth it! Although this was a different kind of responsibility I wasn't used to, it was really awesome to be able to fully depend on myself on a day to day basis. Normally my biggest problem is time management -- being late, not having things done on time; but during this internship I tried my hardest to be on top of everything and be on time to everything. Since this journey, I've been trying my hardest to keep this lifestyle up and manage my time and other things wisely. The biggest take from this process is double checking the uncertainties. Prior to this internship, I thought for sure I was no longer interested in the medical field and planned on taking my future career the artistic route. I decided to make sure I was completely done with this interest before giving up on it, and I decided to do my internship in the medical field. It's a good thing I did this because it helped me realize and remember the things that excite me about this field, and I can honestly say I'm looking forward to a career in medicine. The biggest challenge throughout this was trying to keep up with the terminology, and being able to be on schedule but go with the flow at the same time. I really had to dive into this internship with doing twelve hour shifts and going from just sitting and charting to running from patient to patient. This was an awesome growing experience and really taught me to just go all the way and try my hardest. This company was incredibly helpful to me, in comparison to where I started in the uncertainty of where I was going. If this internship had gone as planned, which would be not having an interest in the field of work, the process still would have been a huge help in deciphering my career interest. There are still things I'm interested in possibly as hobby's but thanks to this experience the medical field is currently where I'm headed and hope and to end up! Mercy should continue taking motivated and/ or uncertain students in. All of the different experiences I was able to have at this internship really developed and progressed my thoughts in what I want to do with my life and as a person. I love being around people and helping as much as I possibly can and this reassured that feeling. I'm so grateful for this opportunity I was given with the help of Animas and Janae Hunderman! I chose the medical field because although it was an early interest of mine, I thought it fizzled out and I was over it. This journey brought me back to seeing the excitement in this profession and I can now say that I'm dead set on this!
